Mission goes down

The Mission Prep girls basketball team fell 51-39 to Ross Branson in the Division V State Championship game at Arco Arena in Sacramento on Saturday morning.

As I sit here typing this, the Branson boys are beating Renaissance Academy 38-31 and are looking to make the Bulls a double winner for the second year in a row.

The Branson girls were amazing. They were tall, athletic, fast. It was a tough game for the Royals, who were down by 19 at one point in the third quarter.

Check out tomorrow's Tribune for a more in-depth recap of the game.

They were also within 5 at one point during they game... They lost by 12 to an amazing team. They didn't "go down" they came far and did well... congratulations Lady Royals on a great season.

Hats off to this amazing team of girl atheletes who dreamed big and achieved their goal of a trip to Arco.

Their perseverence and dedication to the memory of a legendary Mission coach should be an inspiration to us all. He is definitely up there smiling down on the kids he watched growing up to become lovely, talented and diversified young women.

Bittersweet as it was to watch these senior girls play their last game together on the floor of Arco, they and those of us who witnessed it will long remember the beauty and simplicity of true team spirit that they exemplified. The rest of the Royal team will carry on with strength and no doubt will do their best to keep the legacy going.

It was a season you can be proud of Lady Royals! We, your loyal fans are so proud of you!

Well said. Great job girls.

Are you people watching this poll for the Jay Cowitz County Girls Basketball Player of the Year?

It's incredible! Leigh Yetter of Mission now has 422 votes, but Natellie Saia of Morro Bay is not far behind with 394! It puts the boys' poll to shame. Dylan Royer won the whole thing with 64 votes. Come on Morro Bay! Where's your Pirate Pride? Think about it...you had the best Boys football player, Logan Budd...the best boys basketball player, Dylan Royer...how about a trifecta?

(Morro) Rock the vote!

I hope it's not a "hanging chad" thing or voter irregularity. That would be a shame.

I am so happy to see such interest in high school girls basketball! Finally! You go girls!

It's like watching Barack and Hilary, only if Barack were a female.

If you haven't voted yet, there's still four days to go.

Make your vote count. Way to go Mission Girls! A state title game is a very rare thing, San Luis Obispo is proud of you.

Good luck in college and in your futures.

Anonymous said...

Wow...I logged off, and logged right back on, and one of the players had gained 19 more votes in less than two minutes. That's amazing! Or something.

Anonymous said...

Who cares about all this basketball stuff?!

More Jordan Hasay articles please! Ask her whether she can drive or not ;)

Wake up people. The post season awards are voted on and selected by the varsity coaches (people that actual know what they are doing) of their respective sports. Not these hatred and jealousy driven polls.

Congrats to the Mission Prep Lady Royals for making it to the State Finals. What a great lifelong positive experience.

Anonymous said...

the polls are showin the LOVE <3...the comments are showing the "hatred and jealousy"

Anonymous said...

WOW yetter is at 622!!!! that is impresive. she must have a lot of fans out there. I was on here the other day and checked on the score, came back an HOUR later to the computer and she was up 100 more votes!!! that is a impressive amount to get in such little time. almost hard to believe.

Anonymous said...

Saia all the way-a!

Anonymous said...

so scroggs the basketball season is over... when can we expect those all county teams

Anonymous said...

its better with YETTER!

Anonymous said...

...NOT

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Please stop this silly argument! The original blog was about the Mission Prep girls TEAM, not one player. It takes a multi-talented team to go as far as they did to State. There are other very good players on that team and this thread is getting very tiresome about two particular county players. If you want a fair poll, it should have been opened up to many others, not just a spot to vote for "other"!

Anonymous said...

How about Paso Softball 12-0

Anonymous said...

how about scroggin puts the county players of the year out becasue the season is long over?

Anonymous said...

leave scroggin alone... all the coaches have to get together and vote. it takes a little time.

Anonymous said...

Scroggins picks the player himself. He doesn't need input from anyone, never has.

Anonymous said...

hey scroggins...
can you please start blogging about softball, baseball, and track???? This beautiful weather is really shifting my focus to the outdoor sports.

Thanks,

Anonymous said...

you know scroggs, when u consider POY consider that Erica Vesnaver, Leigh Yetter, Michael Hattar, and Dylan Royer were the only players from the county nominated for the All State Teams

Anonymous said...

I just need to say that Tom Mott is ridiculous. He picks 11 of his little buddies to go t Africa and leaves Cone from Paso behind. I hope he at least invited him, otherwise that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.

Anonymous said...

Your comment is ridiculous. Why don't you find out the facts before you comment. hatred and jealousy again. Do something positive, like Mott.

Anonymous said...

who is erica vesnaver?

Anonymous said...

Do something positive? Like cheat???
All Im sayin is people like Allen from Atascadero and Cone from Paso deserve to go to. Is that really such a bad thing to say?

Anonymous said...

will you ever move on? You can ask the central section commissioner, he did not cheat. He never should have been fired. Mott offered to take many players they all didnt accept the opportunity, dont hate him it's not his fault they are missing out

Anonymous said...

It looks like the people have spoken: Yetter and Royer to be Players of the Year. Congrats to both of them, they deserve it.

Anonymous said...

Now why the hell do you have to go and say a thing like that. Lets try and keep these things positive. Yetter certainly does deserve it and if you werent suck a selfish and jealous jackass you would realise that.

Anonymous said...

who's allen??????

Freeping Sweet!

FREEP:

To slew or cheat an online poll by repeatedly voting (clearing cookies, using proxies) or to make a blog appear to be commented by numerous posters by the same means. (From the practices of the Free Republic or "freepers")

(from) Urban Dictionary

Anybody who thinks this many people (1281) actually voted in a rinky dink blog poll that normally has 6-8 people bantering back and forth is delusional.

That's more than would have voted in a Dalidio Project poll. That's one in every 250 people in the COUNTY voted, including toddlers, inmates, and senile seniors. Please.

The PEOPLE have spoken? More like the BOTS have spoken.

Somebody else got it right. Let the coaches vote. If Yetter wins the coaches' poll, she is the winner. If Saia does, she is the winner. If somebody else does, they are the winner.

This poll is definitely not scientific, and for "entertainment purposes only."

Anonymous said...

Obviously the poll is not scientific and family members and friends probably/definitely voted from multiple computers. But thats true of the boys poll as well. Apparently the boys just don't have as loyal a following. But either way, most people on this blog have taken the boys' poll as definitive. Why should we listen to a few anti-Mission people who have been spewing hatred against a girl, simply because she goes there. Yetter more than deserves the honor of POTY.

Anonymous said...

the boys pole wasn't as outrageous, 139 votes over 2-3 weeks is believable. but 1281 over barely 2 weeks, not so much. i dont think it has anything to do with more attention being payed to the girls, if anything boys basketball is more exciting to watch, it jus has to do with the fact that people actually got into it more after the boys poll was decided, and like the posters above me said a lot of those votes probly came from bots and stuff instead of real people.

Anonymous said...

its called clearing your cookies. not bots.

Anonymous said...

Who cares about the poll. They don't matter... its just for fun. Scroggin or the coaches or whatever will make the right choice.

Scroggin... can you give us a time frame for when they might come out?

Joshua D. Scroggin said...

On the topic of County POYs: I'm working hard. Expect the Baseball/Softball season previews to run early this week (Monday-Tuesday-ish). Then we'll wrap up the South Africa thing late next week. Then POYs and All-County basketball teams to follow.

It's a hectic time around here with NCAA tournaments, spring sports, Big West baseball, a potential Cal Poly wrestling national championship and the day-to-day things like laying out the paper.

If I had my way, things would have played out much differently than they are. Thanks to everybody for hanging in there.

Anonymous said...

What Mott was doing was cheating, there is no doubt in my mind about it. When you bring kids over from other countries, send them to your school, room them with yourself and your friends then it is just plain cheating. If my sons team in Morro Bay would've had that help they could've won a CIF championship too.

Anonymous said...

I just wanna say that Cone is POY. What a great season. His season reflects Brook Lopez game agains Marquett. He deserves it.

Anonymous said...

dont ever compare cone to brook lopez

Anonymous said...

Ok, who are you to talk.

Anonymous said...

Why not compare them, they play the same type of game. Unlike Cone and Royer.

Anonymous said...

if they played the same type of game wouldn't cone be goin to a big d1?

Anonymous said...

cone's game is more like kenny george than brook lopez. lopez actually has skills. I have seen both Lopez and Cone play in person and that is pretty much comparing dylan royer to kobe bryant... its just not comparitable. By the way, if you guys were wondering how the POY Royer is doing in Africa, he led the 1dream team with 31 points in a loss against the top men's professional team in South Africa. oh.. and that team is coached by Tom Mott... I am sure he is trying to recruit all these kids and corrupt our youth.. And i'm sorry to all those cone fans that think he should have gone to africa... poor kid.. too bad he would have been the third string center behind Shane Kennedy and Jerry Casey.

Anonymous said...

heck they should fire bromely and hire mott... im sure he could do a hell of a lot better on the recruiting trail and get CP men looking like a worthwhile basketball team

Anonymous said...

Wow, the man just said they play the same type of game, not that Cone is even close to as good as Brook is. They both are long and block a lot of shots, as well as have good interior moves, and are good leaders of their teams.

To anonymous 1:45. I don't know what you are talking about. Cone would be right up with Royer...leading the team. If you REALLY think that Casey and Kennedy are better than Cone than you didn't watch any prep basketball this season. No matter how much you guys hate on Cone, he is very good, and Im sure he will be very successful at Biola.

Anonymous said...

who's David Cone?

Anonymous said...

i have played with an against all three (cone, kennedy, and casey) many times in my life. And I can tell you that they all minus each other out when they play each other...very similar stats in matchups that I have seen (i'm sure youll point out the game cone had 19 against slo this year and ill give you that), but the other games i have seen (which are a lot), none of those three ever "went off" against each other. And all height being equal (if it was), Cone has the least amount of skills. His blocking ability may be better, but kennedy is much quicker on the block and casey is also more polished.

Anonymous said...

You've seen them play against each other a lot? That's weird because they haven't played agaisnt each other very much. Cone played against Casey for the first time this year, and the two times he played agaisnt Kennedy were the only two times of significant playing time for Kennedy over the last two years against Paso. I saw Cone DOMINATE Kennedy in that 19 point game so I don't know what you have been watching. I love that you just made that up to try to show how bad Cone is when really Cone is pretty dang good, and whtever times you played againt him, Im sure he came out on top.

Anonymous said...

umm well based on the fact that cone played in a fall league i played in..i think I would know. also summer ball too. good try. thats weird...were you at THOSE games?

Anonymous said...

umm well based on the fact that cone played in a fall league i played in..i think I would know. also summer ball too. good try. thats weird...were you at THOSE games?

Anonymous said...

And you have the stats for all those fall and summer games and you know exactly how Kennedy and Casey did when playing agaisnt Cone? You watched them play while you were playing your fall and summer league games? rmnve

Anonymous said...

funny you would ask that... i actually do have stats!

http://www.leaguelineup.com/gamesum_basketball.asp?url=1dream&sid=159136498&GameID=4626264

This was the only matchup between Cone and Kennedy in the fall league, because the other time the two teams played Kennedy was gone.

Kennedy- 16 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists

Cone- 6 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist

SUCKSSS that you have nothing to say to that.

Like i said, they minus each other out, Cone had his game this season against Kennedy, Kennedy had his game against Cone, and the other game they basically split.

Anonymous said...

Look at the stats of the other games in that fall league, Cone was a beast. That's one matchup, what happened to your "seen them play alot" statement?

Anonymous said...

I saw them play in cuesta league over the summer. they played each other twice and neither were convincingly better.

Obviously Cone was a beast in the fall leauge because no team besides Kennedy's had anyone over 6'3. He SHOULD be able to score all day and grab boards.

Anonymous said...

Whatever dude, Cone had more points and boards, not to mentin the defensive stats. Please just stop, Cone is better no matter how tall he is, he is just plain better.

Anonymous said...

1 more point and rebound per game in the fall league. that is not JUST PLAIN BETTER.

Kennedy averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds being the third option for SLO (behind Casey Lowe and Julian Demalleville)

Cone averaged 14.8 and 11, being the first option for Paso...the whole offense was revolved around him (and i'm not saying thats a bad thing)

so 2 more points and 1 more board per game, with the guy who is 3 inches taller with the slightly better stats.. thats what height does..a little more points and boards.

Both are good players, I am just saying Cone is definitely not "heads and shoulders" above Kennedy.

Anonymous said...

Well Cone was being double and triple teamed all year. His teamates couldn't hit shots like Demallville and Lowe.
So he is 3 inches taller than Kennedy (6'9'' and 6'6'') does a 5'11'' player have that much of an advantage over a 5'8'' player? Get real. Cone is.

OMG this post was originally about girls basketball which I (and many others) prefer to watch any day. You people are obsessed with a few boy players and its BORING reading your posts. Just remember, it was the Mission Prep Royals GIRLS TEAM that made it all the way to State (only 10 girls teams in California made it that far) and Mission girls have NEVER been recruited and that is a FACT!
Player of the year is not decided here so let the coaches or whoever do their work and I am sure the Tribune will announce it ASAP. Boy's basketball in this area ended quite some time ago, and it was the girls who made the season last so long so - give them the credit where credit is due! I would hate to see some stupid post about how tall boy players are being the end of this thread concerning MCP GIRLS basketball and the efforts of a great team!

rodenwb said...

Now that the dust has settled on the girls season I would like to see Mission girls basketball team play a more difficult schedule. Many of their opponents are not much more than 8th grade teams. They are a very good team that needs good competition to get to the next level. They need to move up to next level in the CIF Playoffs to make those banners mean anything. Also, they need to play good competition away from the central coast. Have you noticed that they can't win the big one away from home. In short, they have been protected by the schedule and playing in a weak CIF division in the playoffs for the past 16 years. The significance of the banners is diluted by this fact! They need to come out and play with the big girls if they want to win the BIG ONE at the end of the year!!

Anonymous said...

You are right, they didn't win the BIG one away from home but Branson is a very good division 5 team and Mission Prep gave them a very good run for their money! The MCP Girls coach has done his best to provide a schedule full of a wide variety of division talent. MCP has gone up against some very good division 1 2 and 3 teams and won! Please take a look at MaxPreps for a complete overview of the seaon. And they have lost too but not much...a 27-5 season is nothing to be ashamed of. The teams that they played were NOT equivalent to 8th graders and I doubt if you saw any games of that caliber yourself. Please keep in mind also that higher divisions don't particularly like to be beaten by a division 5 team. Getting those higher division games scheduled can be very challenging.
Divisions were created to allow for smaller schools (such as Mission) to compete in a fair manner. The reality of it is that to make it to ARco, they compete in the final stretch against Division 5 teams, the best ones in the State. To make it as far as they did, with purely Mission girls, no recruits, just girls who love playing the game with each other striving for a lofty goal is a great feat. The girls basketball banners hanging in the MCP gym are well deserved and cannot be dimished by anything critics can say. The season is over and next year will be different of course. Those senior girls will have moved on but the spirit of MCP and Jay Cowitz still lingers and provides these girls with the drive and desire that they will need to prevail. It is a difficult legacy indeed to live up to. Many of us will be wishing them well...

Anonymous said...

why are some people such assholes

Anonymous said...

I don't understand where this notion comes from that the Mission girls play a weak schedule?! They played in a D1 tournament this year and came in second. These were really good teams that they played and beat, some of the best D1 teams in SoCal. Sure they also played Coast twice, but they are the only people in their league... which is a pretty dumb league to be sure. But the problem is that some people in the SLO community don't see all the really good teams the Mission girls went up against this year and beat because they weren't local. The Mission girls play some extremely good teams and they play a couple bad ones too. But those few bad teams should not diminish the amazing achievements of those girls this year. They played their hearts out and went all the way. And as for Their inability to win the "Big One"... in D5 the North dominates the South 9 times out of 10, they are that good. I think the Mission girls should be very proud of what they achieved, something no other team in the area has been able to come close to. We as a community should celebrate them for it, nit try and bring them down.

Anonymous said...

were not trying to bring them down, congrats for what they did. but the fact is im not as amazed that they did it, as if another team in the area did it. to me its just another title in a weak division.

Anonymous said...

Just because they represent Mission Prep is reason enough to root agaisnt them in my opinion.

Anonymous said...

HOW HORRIBLY RUDE!! To say such a thing about any school's atheletes who train and work so hard is disgraceful. If you had a problem with MCP in the past because of certain individuals, please try to separate those feelings of animosity from your expressions about the students who go there and represent Mission Prep athletically. There are different administrators at MCP now and you apparently might be surprised to know that they are pretty great people!

Think back, maybe some wise person in your past told you "if you don't have anything nice to say..."

Anonymous said...

Funny how Fr. Tilly was the only problem at Mission . . . There wern't any "FREEPs" or blog polling rigging going on with the other polls - only when a Mission player was being hailed for an award. Maybe the idea of doing whatever it takes to win has trickled down so far that ethics is either a lost concept or last-choice elective at a certain SLO school.

Anonymous said...

Agreed...the poll is a joke, in fact, Scroggins probably not a good idea to do this kind of thing. Obviously somebody had a way to fix the votes. We are a Mission family & are dissapointed at the wacky numbers. Plenty of excellent county players who could be considered besides those named by Scroggins. Enough said on that!

Things are better at MCP without Tilley, Mott, etc. So far Brady Locke is proving to be a great athletic director without prejudice towards boys basketball & that is QUITE refreshing.

The girl's team had a lot of obstacles for a number of years being the clear underdog to boy's basketball. Hopefully, that has changed now & those of you out there who hate MCP can see these kids (this time girls BB) for the great athletes that they are and recognize and not degrade their accomplishments.

Many of us read (including MCP parents) about other schools and applaud those students who excel in academics and athletics. Please let us stop this insane degradation of one school in preference of another. We should be the example to our children and promote the philosophy of sportsmanship no matter who the winner or loser is and be proud that our community can be represented at any high level of competition in this state!

to anonymous 8:45 i go to mcp and your a joke... things arent better without mott all sports besides girls basketball have gone down... mp baseball lost 2 big hitters darren mullen and dan howell who could easily help lead the royals to a cif final... boys basketball lost darren mullen anthony kilgore drew valdez kurt sheplay these kids could have brought the extra effort needed to win state... boys football lost many of these same boys who played the sport... Brady has done nothing except bring a boys volleyball team good job brady there doing great... all sports are hurting and its worse to come next year with many of there top players leaving... your a parent who should be non partisan and enjoy each sport... mott obviously is going to lean towards boys basketball sense he was the coach of the team... he did many good things for other sports at mission and its a bummer mission lost such a great man

Anonymous said...

brady lock is not a good athletic director. period. he does nothing at all.

Anonymous said...

honestly i just wrote that short note not knowing someone else was writing at the same time... but i agree with the above poster...sports at mission have gone down hill ever since mott left and lock came.. back a few years ago...students would actually come to basketball games.. this year it was a rarity to see more than 15 students cheering. Boys Volleyball is a joke for mission- Realistically all the other sports at mission are respectable but adding a volleyball team is ludacris when you have such a small talent pool to start with, and many of the athletes play baseball, golf, or run track.

Anonymous said...

What was Mott, some kind of cult leader? You're saying Mullen, Howell, Valdez, and Sheplay all left because Mott left? Did he deprogram them?

Mullen and Valdez at least, both lost a year of varsity eligibility at their new schools, and had to play JV as juniors in their respective sports. A big price to pay just because Mott left. Could it have been that San Luis hired a former major leager as a coach and Howell and Mullen wanted to play under him? Couldn't afford the tuition? Saw Mott mixing a batch of grape Kool-Aid?

Coaches come and go all the time at the high school level. Most kids stay at their neighborhood schools and make do. I don't think it is the new AD's fault that some students (and parents) jumped shipped.

Adding a volleyball program gave some kids a chance to play a sport that might not have otherwise played anything. They're not winning right away? So what. It takes time to build a program. Ultimately, it's about getting kids involved, not wins and losses.

Anonymous said...

the fact that were talking about kids coming and going with an athletic director shows how mission recruits in many different sports.

Anonymous said...

Yes. You can ask all of them... Sheplay and Valdez left directly beacuse of the departure of Mott. Candaele, the former Mission Prep coach and current coach for SLO left because of the departure of Mott: Howell and Mullen left because Candaele left.

So lets see here: 4 left from the basketball program. (Kilgore, Valdez, Sheplay, Mullen played basketball as well)

4 left the baseball team due to Candaele's departure: Jacob Peterson (MB), Brett Weeks (SLO), Darren Mullen (SLO), Dan Howell (SLO)

And if mission is all about the money...man, that is $50,000 of tuition that walked away due to Mott's departure.

Mott was not a cult leader... It's called being a good guy. Look at what he is doing now: taking 11 local kids to Africa. Is anyone else doing that stuff around here?

Name one thing Brady Lock has done since being at Mission as well...
It took him way too long to get the mission field done. It could have been finished in october of 06 if he knew what he was doing...

Anonymous said...

to the 9:38 post.....high school sports is not only about getting involved, it's also about competition and learning how to win or lose, but if you are not in it to win, don't play. Rec. sports is about getting involved, it's time to grow up in high school and learn what real lessons....you have to work hard to win, no matter what game you are playing. There are all kinds of games played (and I don't mean sports) and mostly it's about competition and winning, whether you want to call it that or not.

I think thi is what Lock doesn't get, it seems he has the same philosophy as rec sports do (getting involved is all that's important)....maybe because his kids are that age....Brady, it's time get behind the competitive aspect of HS sports, and help MP teams win.

Anonymous said...

so many of those kids were already planning on leaving because of the horrible administration that tilley had in place as well some family reasons for others.

And of course the baseball players were gonna follow arguably the best coach in the area.

Mott was just the factor that helped push them over the edge.

Anonymous said...

To 9:38. If it isn't about winning or losing at MP then why do many of the leaders (past and present) find a scheme to bend every rule in order to win. Maybe your athletes just aren't up to par and that's why you lose. Also, the athletes that are up to par play the weakest schedule in the history of sports.

Anonymous said...

Lest you forget, Mr. 4:25, MCP is Division 5 meaning (I believe) a total student body less than 500. No rules have been bent recently and CIF is very observant and disciplinary if they are. Your opinion of a weak schedule is your opinion PERIOD. MCP BB (boys and girls) play a wide variety of divisions. Please check MAXPREPS for their complete game schedule and results. They played up as much as possible. Upper divisions don't like to be beaten by Div 5 teams so somewhat difficult to schedule.

And also, Mott wasn't loved by everyone. There are those at MCP that are relieved that he left. Girls Soccer and BB did very well this year! High School sports shouldn't always be about winning and losing. Kudos to Locke for MCP Boys Volleyball. And additional kudos to him for encouraging all kids to play sports. The reality is the best players get the most playing time but those on the bench add tremendously to team and school spirit. Those are life lessons for these kids.

Don't know much about the players that left MCP after Mott's departure but I do know that academics are often part of the equation. MCP expects alot out of their students and if you can't deal with the tough academics, often another school is the best option.

The reality is Division 5 isn't a real great place to be recognized for college recruitment. Most students go to MCP for academic and religious reasons. The fact that MCP has been successful in sports has probably been due to the reality that these kids have to be tremendously focused and disciplined in order to keep their grades up and participate in sports.

yeah pretty weak schedule for boys basketball. lets just go through some names here...let me know if you have heard of any: Demar Derozan, Jordan Hamilton, Darnell Gant, Jeff Whithey, Justin Cooke, Robin Lopez, Brook Lopez, Quincy Poindexter, Derrick Jasper, Adrian Oliver, Ryan Anderson... oh.. and wait.. DAVID CONE!

Girls Basketball played DI schools this year and did perfectly fine.

I do not believe that either of those could be considered "weakest schedule in the history of sports"

and those former Mission kids were not planning on leaving until mott left. Kilgore did leave during his sophomore year but he is the only one who had any plans on leaving. Candaele left because mott left.. it is as simple as that. go ahead and ask him

Honestly person, do you even go to mission? locke doesn't do a damn thing. everyone knows that. volleyball had their first win yesterday! woo!!! great job team. Sports overall have gone down hill since Mott left. the girls soccer team was successful because of some good players, not because of the athletic director.

those kids did not leave due to academics. don't try and jump around what happened..

Can somebody who knows the real story give us a brief synopsis of what went down with Mott/Tilley/players leaving?

I don't think the real story ever came out in the press. I think Mott taking the kids to Africa was a great thing, and enjoyed the reports from the players.

There are too many people that would be exposed if the true story came out... KG is still hiding out there so we all know what happened.

There are a lot of uninformed people out there. Just know its all in the past and Tom Mott has moved on and is still doing great things.

www.1dreamfoundation.com has everything you want to know about the current Tom Mott...looks like a good guy to me.

look tom mott recruited and cheated with mission end of story. that doesn't mean he's a horrible person as it shows with his 1dreamfoundation.

You CAN get scholarships at the Division V level. Just at Mission Prep...

Kat Suderman - UCSB
Adrian Hernandez - Tulsa
Harrison Keller - Lewes and Clark
Luis Santiago - Chico St.
Brent Walker - USC/Cal Poly
Stephanie Thomas - UC Irvine

And there are many more across the D5 level.

Your misconception that MP kids will never get scholarships is the same reason that many parents don't like Brady Lock.

He told us in a newsletter that our kids will likely not receive college scholarships, so prepare to pay for college tuition. And our kids shouldn't even pursue the opportunity.

Lock also told all of us that winning is the least important aspect of team sports. Then why is their a scoreboard? Isn't life about winning and losing? Getting accepted to a college, competing for a job, etc.

His days are numbered...

Mott is basically obsessed with winning, if he wants to have that problem on himself, ok, but when he spreads to make a whole school of zombies follow his lead and bend every rule like he does, then I have a problem...I have a problem!

whole school of zombies... are you kidding me?

Luis Santiago plays at Chico? No he doesn't!!! Stop lying!

So how is the AG track team doing in the throws department? Haven't heard anything about that in a while now.

AG Boys throws is still doing prety well...Kenny Sugishita took 3rd at the county meet, and actully had the longest throw after a few rounds, until Cutler uncorked a monster. Boaz, from Nipomo, took
2nd. His older brother, Kellen, threw for AG and Long Beach State.

Boaz would have gone to AG, but the Nipomo High split changed that.

On the girls side, Franklin from AG won the shot, and DeWitt from Nipomo took the discus with a 145, which should put her in top 5 in state.

AG also had several others in the top 8. So, overall, throwers are still a force, although not dominant like they used to be (five guys throwing over 60 from the same team).

South county still rules the throws (except for Cutler) he is a beast! (See link)
