Dylan aiming for Division I

Since I got the low down from Paso Robles center David Cone on his college commitment, I also got in touch with Morro Bay guard Dylan Royer about his college opportunities — mostly to keep you faithful blog readers informed.

So here it is: Royer has not made any commitments. "I would love to play at the D1 level, and there are still a couple of possibilities," he said in an e-mail.

Royer said he has interest from Cal Poly and UC Davis at the NCAA Division I level and UC San Diego at Division II. NAIA schools Concordia and Westmont are also in the picture.

As a freshman in 2004-05, Royer was ranked as the 25th best prospect in Southern California by HoopScoopOnline.com. Since then, he's eclipsed 2,000 points at Morro Bay and has broken at least eight individual school records.

Royer led the Pirates to a 20-8 record and to the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division III-AA playoffs. He scored 22.5 points, grabbed nearly 7 rebounds and averaged just under 2 steals per game while shooting 38 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free-throw line.

It would be a great storyline to follow the guy if he ends up at Poly. Heck, it would be very intriguing if he landed at Davis and came back to haunt the Mustangs in the end. But wherever he chooses, it's sure to be a great accomplishment.

Great info on both of these fine ball players.

Is there a signing date for basketball like they have for football?

Based on the info in the 2 lasts blogs I would say that the pendulum has swung over on Dylan's side for POTY.

It's ashamed that you have to pick a single player of the year when thye other kids on the teams [play a role in these 2 guys success.

If he goes to Davis it won't be this next year. I know for a fact they have no more scholarships left. The only way he would go would be as a walk on.

Pendulum to Royer? Pendulum to Cone. He had many more, and much bigger schools looking at him. Congrats to Royer though, it seems he is destined to make his mark in college also. Is it just me or is the Central Coast getting somewhere in this recruitment thing?

when are the county players of POY coming out Scroggin????

I'll get to work on it when the season is over.

We have to wait and let the postseason play out. That, and I like to let the suspense build. ;)

lol whoever said cone had many more and much bigger schools looking at him is dead wrong. the schools that were just named off are what royer has nailed it down too, he got looks from pac 10 schools too along with other d1's.

Looks? Offers? not the same.

who did cone get pac 10 offers from?

Having watched most of Cal Poly's games this season, a player who can actually shoot the ball from the outside and make shots would be a welcome addition!

By the way, not sure if its been mentioned in The Tribune yet, but Royer has been named the Los Padres League MVP.

i think thats the first year in a looong time that someone that wasn't on the first place team won mvp. that says something about royer.

Where is the list of Los Padres All League?

I think that only seniors can play in all star games. There are some good juniors in the area, might even be stronger than the senior class, demalleville, kennedy, souza, sheplay, casey, allen, to name a few

whoa whoa who said the larger more powerful pac 7 league? the lpal was just as good if not better then the pac 7 this year, except for maybe righetti the top 3 teams in the lpal could beat up on those pac 7 teams. templeton beat atown and they finished damn near last in the league. not to mention morro bay beat atown and slo. and saint joe would kill those teams too. usually the pac 7 is better cause their bigger, but this year its not the same.

Scroggin, can you please give me a day to look foward to when I don't have to read all this stuff about whose better. When is the Player of the Year going to be annnounced?

Anonymous said...

I can guarantee that even after the POY story runs, you'll still see plenty of bickering on here about who's better.

Anonymous said...

Unless Scroggins is being told to pacify Paso readership, Royer will be the POY.

Career, season, team, ability, Royer's the choice.

Cone's a great player, but the POY is a no-brainer.

Danny Anderson of Morro Bay was named League MVP as a 3rd place team a few years back.

Anonymous said...

he was co-mvp unlike royer who didn't share it with anyone. Anderson was also a hell of a player too though.

that is from Mission Prep's game vs. Immanuel last week.

ha there is no way the senior class would have any sweat with the junior class

you guys dont even know who the best player in the county is, shows how many games u saw this yr...michael hattar.

Anonymous said...

All he does is shoot. Thats not a player, thats a gunner.

Anonymous said...

Michael Hatter is a very overrated player. I scouted him for a school. Cant play man d. Not quick enough to guard. Cant create is own shot to name a few things.

Cool post you got here. It would be great to read more about that topic. Thank you for giving that info.
