Where would you like to see Derrick Jasper?

Talking to former Paso Robles basketball star Derrick Jasper yesterday, it seemed pretty clear he was carefully weighing his options since deciding to transfer from Kentucky.

He'll have to sit out a year if he transfers to an NCAA Division I university, but he'll also have two additional years of eligibility (and a redshirt year if necessary) once he sits out.

When word first spread about the potential for Jasper to leave the Wildcats, the school I originally thought of — and I'm just being honest here — was UCLA. Bruins coach Ben Howland is a noted defensive guru, and with Jasper's above-average size at point guard, defense and rebounding has been the former Bearcat's specialty in college.

As it turns out, there's been some interest from UCLA and Westwood could be a likely destination for Jasper. But it's not the only school that fits his criteria of wanting to get closer to home. Jasper also has several other schools he's considering, including San Diego State, UNLV, USC and Long Beach State among others.

He never mentioned Cal Poly, which is as close to home as you can get, but Jasper didn't sound as if he was ruling much out either at this early stage. He got his official release from Kentucky on Monday and said he expects to take as much time as needed to make the right decision.

Where would you like to see Jasper end up? Comment here and vote in the new poll.

UCLA would be a good fit but i could see him getting lost among the stars there. If he wants to stick to a Ben Howland-esque system he should go to Santa Clara and play for former Howland assistant Kerry Keating

I live in San Diego and would love to watch him play for San Diego State. It's a great school, has a great coach, and I would like to see them help out my alma mater.

Who cares! Wherever he goes you can count on him to get his usual 3 rebounds, 2 points, 1 assist and maybe a steal. I just don't get how people around here slobber over him like they do. Dude, just go to Long Beach St. and you MIGHT be able to double those numbers.

NBA draft.

SDSU has a great coach????? Fisher brings in great talent, and yet they go nowhere.... ever. I think UNLV is the best fit for Jasper. NBA coach, defense-oriented team, program seriously on the rise. They could be scary good in the near future. Then again, can't blame anyone for wanting to play at UCLA.

Anyone who knows the name "Bob Cantu" will likely have the answer to the question.

ucla is a good fit, i think he'll avg more then 2 pts and 3 rebs whoever said that above me, considering he avg like 3 points and almost 6 rebs this year he'll only improve. still needs a jumpshot tho.

lot of great throwers from AG are going to great schools. Maddie Franklin is goin to UCSB on a scholarship. Kenny Sugishita is getting recruited by U of North Carolina right now and Justin Morrow is going to Fresno State next year and is going to walk on and throw for the track team with Cutler from templeton who has a scholarship. The AG throwers kind of underachieved this year though. all 3 of them expected to be hitting huge marks and advance to state but it just didn't happen. best of luck to all of them next year!

Thinking Jasper would go to Cal Poly is inferior. He is on a whole different level. My guess is UNLV. Seems like a good place. I'd like to see him go to SC though.

but somehow long beach state isn't beneath jasper?

this is the same long beach state that plays alongside poly in the big west. the same long beach state in trouble with the ncaa for recruiting violations.

if lbsu is in the picture, cal poly has every right to go after jasper.

that said, it's ucla, guys. mark it down.

Did I ever say that Long Beach state was a good fit. No I just said Poly was. Relax man, he shouldn't go to either school. Does that make you fell better?
