Say Hello to Erick Smith

Alright, since high school and college sports are officially over for the summer, it's time for some summer cleaning.

Starting next fall, not only will this blog be getting a new look — a WordPress.org makeover — but your author is changing as well.

The tentative plan (plans are always tentative in the newspaper business) is for staff writer Erick Smith to take over the high school duties in the fall.

That's him up at the top of this post. Doesn't working with me look like such a blast?

I'm preparing to try and fill Brian Milne's shoes on the college beat come football season.

In my two plus years so far in SLO County, one of my favorite parts of the job has been watching this blog grow.

I appreciate every reader out there who takes the time to visit and post comments. Our interaction has made The Tribune's sports coverage much stronger and has really helped me do a better job.

I don't plan on stepping completely away from high school sports, and I'll help Erick out where I can, but I'm also looking forward to the different challenge of covering Cal Poly and Cuesta athletics.

I lay this gauntlet out for Central Coast prep sports fans: This blog had better not wane.

We've gone through some slow times, but the spirited debates, the comments, the polls and the general traffic have all opened up some eyes in The Tribune newsroom. High school sports has a fervent following, and I expect it to continue to show.

Check back for the new web addresses of both sports blogs in the future. And thanks for the time.

Arroyo Grande. The best high school sports program in the county.

Anonymous said...

Ok, yea right man. Paso.

Anonymous said...

Arroyo Grande is also the most successfull.

Anonymous said...

AG has the strawberry festival. Other then that they are pretty bad.

Anonymous said...

The question is what town does Erick live in??
We dont care where you're from!!

Anonymous said...

Ok AG's got many D1 athletes and also olympians.

Anonymous said...

I heard Ercik, Erok, Ebok, ooohh however youe spell it, lives in AG and he eats alot of strawberrys.

Anonymous said...

Can't Ewok speak for himself. Why does Scroggins have to introduce him? He looks like a child. How about Scroggins stays with this blog and Ewok goes to the Poly blog?

Why you got to delete my comments scrotumagin. The B in my name stands for Ball.

Anonymous said...

How do you know Scroggs deleted it? Maybe Ewok deleted it.....

Anonymous said...

Is Ewok a Miwok?

Anonymous said...

AG is the top school in this area for their past success and recent succes in sports and schooling. maybe they will get some credit now since scroggins was totally biased against them all year.

Anonymous said...

Like Ag's football season last year. Simply the best.

Anonymous said...

well maybe they would have done better if they did not have to go against atowns steroids

If I remember right it was SLO for the 2nd year in a row knocking Arroyo Grando OUT of the playoffs. This years Pac7 schedule has been changed. AG no longer plays SLO the last game of the season. Word has it they don't want to be knocked out by SLO the last game anymore. Now another fine PAC7 team will have the honor of crushing AG in the last game for the Eagles season.
Pluck them birds...........

Im not even an AG fan but 9:02 you are making yourself and your school sound like idiots leave comments like that. Do everyone a favor and stick with whatever it is you do best...my mind can only wonder.

Anonymous said...

9:02 is factually correct about everything but pluck them birds. I get tired of the SLO talk too but it's only a blog, roll with it.

PASO Should be really good with all of those athletes cant wait till Westlake.
ATASCADERO should be pretty good with all of those muscles guess will find out real early how good they are.
SLO should be decent maybe they can score some points this year.
Righetti should be decent also but you never know what they are going to do.
Lompoc will be ok with that bobby collins but one man cant beat a hole team.
AG was an imbarresment to the Pac-7last year Losing to Aptos,PV,and St.Joe. Hopefully they can do better this year.
And hopefully all the teams will do good but Paso and Atown are gonna bring some pride to the county.
Go Bearcats

So Erika gets this blog and hasn't even posted a subject. Had to have Scroggs post the first one for him. I'll go out on a limb here with a prediction...
Ewok sucks. He's a leftover. A reject. Put Erk back on garbage detail. Give us anyone else. Someone that actually shows up here on the blog.

Anonymous said...

Damn, hater.

Anonymous said...

WHERE'S EWOX ???

Anonymous said...

Rumor is that Atascadero got busted using roids. Anyone know if that's true?

Anonymous said...

If that's true then Paso is the undisputed champion of the PAC 7 in football.

Anonymous said...

I heard that a couple guys got caught but they are still letting them play.
Its unfortunate that these guys are ruining their schools reputation by doing this.

Anonymous said...

How could Atascaderoid's reputation get worse??

Anonymous said...

I heard the coaches were the ones giving the players the roids in the first place. what does that say about the school in genera?

Anonymous said...

Obviously nobody contesting the accusations!!
Hey, Ewok/Trib how bout some investigative reporting?
Or, is that too much trouble??

Anonymous said...

Sounds good

Erick doesn't actually exist. He is a blow up doll. Only the mighty Scroggin's could do this.

Anonymous said...

Yeh, I think you are right. Scroggs is acutally both of these guys.

Anonymous said...

Acutally you can't spell.

Anonymous said...

Scroggins was spotted on the Cal Poly blog today. Still no siting of Erikc the Ewok. I think you're right, Scroggins is both of them. We'll see if anyone from the Trubune even looks at this blog. Here's a test....

The Tribune SUCKS.

Let's see if they even read it.

Anonymous said...

No, the Trib doesn't suck. Scroggins was good. It's just the choice of this Erick kid that sucks. The Tribune should take responsability for this descision though. I hate out of town owners of local papers.

Sorry for the delay in building the new prep sports blog. My goal is to have it up and running next week. There is some early football news in Friday's paper and next week I plan to start blogging about football practices. So be on the lookout.

After a month of silence EROK has risen from the dead !!
But, don't PLAN on bloggin, just do it!

Anonymous said...

EWOK,
I hope we hear about the Atascaderoidians.

Anonymous said...

Ewoks own words about this blog...
"My goal is to have it up and running next week"
We'll see. I doubt it. He's probably playing video games on his computer.

EMOCKK,
How cums I cant stiill vote for Erick Jasper?

Atascadero has had roid rumors for years. Just like any other team that has been dominate, even if it is distant past. They have been investigated and never come up with anything. But the coaching staff WOULD NOT be responsible for giving them out! Do you know these guys? You are making some pretty big accusations about someone you don't even know! Come on guys! Get a life! If your clueless enough to believe that Atascadero is the only school with drug problems it's time to move away from your computer and interact with the rest of the world! EVERY school has it's fair share of drug issues. Do you think every kid in Paso, Templeton, SLO, MB, AG, Nipomo, Santa Maria, St. Joe, Righetti, Pioneer, Santa Ynez, Cabrillo and Lompoc would all be clean in a drug test? Look at all those schools and figure how many boys walk on to that field in one season and do the math! Talk about something intelligent would you?
Hey Eric! Welcome! Hopefully you can turn this blog around to something good with the strong points of SLO county athletics. Most high school athletes work to hard to have this stuff published about them.

Anonymous said...

Another Atascasteriodian in denial. And to "talk about something intelligent" you must first learn how to spell Ewock!

Anonymous said...

Paso actually. Sorry for the spelling error but spelling errors and all I still apparently have more important things to do than bash high school kids. Which apparently you do not. Find something good to say about the kids. Why spread negative gossip about kids?

Anonymous said...

OOH, roid rage.

Anonymous said...

hey new high school sports guy,

it is football season and you have not posted a thing, I dont think you get it, a lot of people like to talk about this stuff, you are a huge dissapointment right now

Anonymous said...

people need to know that he has posted a couple things up on his "new" blog. the link is on the tribune home page, i believe its called "the preps box" he has all the new and old topics. we need people to comment and to talk, its football season!!!
